Supr Spellerer

Jonah made it to the School Spelling Bee this year!
Each class grades 3-8 sends two students to compete against each other, for a total of 14 competitors.
The winner of this round goes to the Regional Spelling Bee somewhere in Portland.
Does he look nervous...?
His first round...I think he's looking at me for support...and for letters?
Just kidding, I would never do that...
He did so well.
Made it to the last 3, with two 8th grade girls...
Got "schooner" but alas, missed on "romaine"
We think he's one heck of a guy...and so smart.
I asked him if he was pleased with his performance, to which he said,"Yup."
By the way, every kid in his class was pulling for him, and after he got out he had to give
24 high-fives :)
Great job, Jonah!

Jonah's Recital

I'm such a slacker! Jonah had his recital on May 1 and while I posted it on facebook, I completely forgot to blog it.
He did a great job, we are very proud of all his hard work (read: all the times I had to remind him to practice). Now that he's done, he's got some new material to work with and is sitting down at the piano just for fun again. It's nice to have a goal, but it's also nice when it's been fulfilled and he can move on to something he's excited about again (the way he was when he first got The Fifth to work on, for example!).
Here ya go, I hope you enjoy!

Award Day

We are so proud of Jonah and Ava! They each received awards at school. Jonah got two for memory work. One was Scripture and one was for Historical Documents (Preamble, a bunch of Amendments, Declaration of Independence).
Ava received Scholar of the Year for her class (only 1 girl and 1 boy in each class get this honor)!!
They both have worked so hard this year--we are really loving their school and the education they are receiving is incredible.
(Sorry for the horribly fuzzy pictures!)

LIMO!!

We are so proud of Jonah--he worked hard at piano all year doing a game his piano teacher invented called Musikopoly. He had to practice each week a certain amount, attend concerts, recitals, do a research report on a composer (can you guess who he chose?), do a recital at a nursing home, do online studies, memorize his favorite songs and more.
He earned his reward: A Limo Ride!!
Here he is with his pal Jason and hanging out the window and looking oh, so EXCITED standing in front of the ride! Ha! Great job Jonah!!!!!

Campin' Out on the Porch

Joe and Ava disappeared one day...when I found them they had made little beds on the porch (note the parasol). They wanted to camp out there (they come by that honestly) but maybe when they're a little older...

Uh Oh

This from Jonah's new school policy on boy's hair:

"Hair must be neatly groomed. Any dramatic hair coloration or extreme cuts of hair are not acceptable. Hair colors must be of a natural hue. The length of the back of the hair is not to exceed the middle of a standard dress shirt collar and many not be longer than the top of the eyebrows in front. Pony tails, duck tails, or pattern cuts are not permitted."

This might cause some "friction" in the Brawler household.

Trout Creek 2010

L-R: Aidan, Jonah, Jason, Boy Whose Name I Forgot

Jonah has the same counselor as last year! Camp is 5 days now. . . Here they are getting ready to go play in the mud or jump off a 10ft ledge into the pool or get really, really dirty. At least they don't have to stay in Teepees (reads like: open game for mosquitos) like someone did when she was in primary camp...

Jonah's "Rock On Recital" 2010

Jonah and Jon rocked the house at his recital this past Sunday! We are so proud of him and all his hard work! All the students played rock songs and they were all involved in a huge medley of about five songs at the end of the performance. And in case you're wondering...yes, he was dressed up like a Beatle! We were also so thrilled to have Gammie and Papa Mel represent, as well as The Durias and Griffin familias! Thanks for coming guys!
Jonah, You ROCK!

Jonah & Friends at Sk8 Church

Jonah goes to this every Wednesday night; it helps to get the wiggles out! Jon used to go to High School skate church long, long ago...

A Virtual Recital (aka: "The Sick Maestro Plays Fur Elise")

This one's for Papa Mel and Bepo (the only song I remember her playing; maybe it's the only one you know?--heehee). Enjoy!!

Audrey Rose

Mimi (Miriam) & her Mama (Jenni)

I love this pic of Jonah doing fish lips while waiting for us to sing to him! In leiu of a cake Jonah wanted these rice crispy treats made with butterscotch, chocolate, and peanut butter. This was waaaaay too easy!
